Apart from a business trip I made to Lisbon in about 1990 we have had two holidays in Portugal. Our first holiday in 1991 was to Evora (mid Portugal) and Setubal (south of Lisbon). We remember it being very hot (even at 10 o'clock at night) and having to drink hot Cola in the car, as we did not have an air conditioned vehicle. We stayed in Pousadas (Government run hotels often based in old castles and monasteries).

Our second holiday in 2003 was to Northern Portugal which included a trip on the River Douro and a visit to a vineyard. We had trouble finding our first Pousada in Oporto, until I asked an ice-cream vendor. Still, what's new?
